Chris Rock has revealed that love, not Hollywood success, is what he considers making it. The comedian has spent decades in show business, which makes the answer worth hearing. His new film, Misty Green, follows an actress chasing a Hollywood comeback, so the timing feels rather tidy. The reply came on a big night, and it was refreshingly plain. While Hollywood counts trophies and box office totals, Rock keeps a different ledger, and his exact words spell it out.

Chris Rock defines making it as a happy family and a life full of love. The comedian offered that view at the New York Film Festival premiere of Misty Green on Saturday night.

"Making it is, to me, where I’m at right now: my daughter having great kids. Having love in your life," he said to Variety.

He then added, "If you got no love, you’re broke as f***. That’s making it."

Variety reports that Rosalind Eleazar plays Misty, and Rock plays a director who got her booted from a Cinderella remake. The two characters bond over their shared infidelity, which Rock calls life in general rather than a Hollywood habit. Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace complete the ensemble. Rock says he assembled the cast for $5 million by filming in Los Angeles, and he said tax incentives would help.

While Misty Green follows a comeback, Rock also recalls a big break that never came, courtesy of Fox.

Chris Rock told Variety in a separate interview that Everybody Hates Chris once competed with Method & Red for a Fox slot, and the network chose the rival. Rock joked that a Fox run would have made him outrageously rich, and he used stronger language to say so. Method & Red debuted on Fox in June 2004 and ran only nine of its thirteen ordered episodes. Fox, in his telling, clearly picked the wrong show.

Rock also linked the missed Fox opportunity to the wider struggle of getting Black family stories prioritized on television. The Brooklyn-set show, created by Rock and Ali LeRoi, still found its audience through reruns that turned it into a hit in Brazil. Streaming later pushed it onto global charts, and the animated follow-up Everybody Still Hates Chris kept the story going. The missing millions may sting, yet a comedian who counts love as success can afford to laugh about them.
