Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali had predicted Sharon Stone’s future long before the actress or her family could have imagined it. Stone rose to fame with her roles in Basic Instinct and Casino after beginning her career as a model in the ’70s. However, this was not the future her family had planned for her.

Stone was supposed to become an architectural engineer. But it was the late boxing legend Muhammad Ali who predicted her future and her inevitable rise to fame. Years later, the actress remembers the story of Ali calling her father to offer her a movie role.

Sharon Stone met Muhammad Ali quite early in her career, when she was a teenager participating in a beauty pageant in Pennsylvania. When the late boxing legend recognized Stone’s potential in the film industry, he was quick to call her father, Joseph William Stone II, to offer her a role in his film The Greatest. However, when Stone’s father rejected the offer, Ali did not have an option. But he made the prediction that Stone would one day make it in the film industry.

"And Ali said, ‘You could put that girl under a bushel basket, Mr. Stone. That girl’s going to be a movie star no matter what you think,’” Stone recalled.

Sharon Stone recalled the entire conversation during her interview with Variety for its Power of Women cover story. As Stone shared, her father told Ali that she had a high IQ and would go to college to pursue a very different career as an architectural engineer. In the end, Muhammad Ali’s prediction came true for Stone, who went on to become a household name in Hollywood.

She won a Golden Globe and received an Academy Award nomination for her role in Casino, and has appeared in numerous films, including The Specialist, The Quick and the Dead, Sphere, and more. As for Muhammad Ali and Stone, the two later met again when the latter reminded Ali of their previous encounter. They also shared a great friendship until the legend passed away in 2016.

Now, while Stone has faced several hurdles, as well as ups and downs, throughout her career, she has continued to show up with brilliant performances. Most recently, she starred in Euphoria in a brief role, but before that, she impressed audiences with her performance in Ratched.

During the interview with Variety, Sharon Stone was asked about her role in Ratched. Ryan Murphy had written the role specifically with her in mind. She recalled the time Murphy approached her about the role and revealed that he was disappointed by the actress’s lack of excitement.

"He was not very happy with me that I wasn’t just excited that he did it. And I didn’t want to tell him that people write parts for me with a bit of regularity, and I don’t take all of them. Clearly, they’re not as special as Mr. Murphy," she said.

Understandably, Stone wanted to understand the role and read the script before saying yes. Much to fans' relief, things worked out for the two, as Stone went on to portray Lenore Osgood in Ratched. Now, after playing a Hollywood boss in Euphoria, it remains to be seen what other exciting roles the actress takes on next in her career.
