John Leguizamo has called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One a failure so expensive that business schools teach it. The remark landed during a speech about failure and second chances, which is an unusual stage for a jab at Tom Cruise's spy franchise. Hollywood speeches usually stick to thank-yous and tearful shout-outs to agents. Leguizamo skipped that script and delivered something sharper, with a punchline that doubled as a genuine point about fairness.
While the business school jab sounded like a fiscal roast, the full speech carried a bigger message about second chances, and the exact words behind that line explain why.
John Leguizamo calls Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One a flop
John Leguizamo used Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One as his example of an expensive flop. The comments came at the Critics Choice Association's 6th Annual Celebración Of Cinema & Television.
"When one of us gets to make an Ishtar, a Waterworld, a Mission Impossible Reckoning," Leguizamo said, naming the movies as examples of major Hollywood flops.
The punchline was only the setup, because Leguizamo followed it with, "and if after that flop you still get hired on Tuesday like they do, that's equity."
Equity, he explained, means the second chance, not the trophy.

Variety posted a video of the speech on its X account from the Critics Choice Association’s 6th Annual Celebración of Cinema & Television, showing Leguizamo turning his Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One remark into a plea for generosity. He passed along advice from his friend, filmmaker Tracy Layman, about being a light and also a mirror that reflects brightness onto others. Leguizamo called storytelling his voice and said he refuses to build happiness on another person's misery. His closing goal was for every Latin child in the country to see themselves on screen.
While Leguizamo delivered the verdict from a podium, the jury at home needs to press play, and Paramount+ has the full case file.
Where to watch every Mission: Impossible movie?
Paramount+ is the easiest place to watch every Mission: Impossible film starring Tom Cruise, and as of late 2026, all eight titles stream there. The run begins with Mission: Impossible from 1996 and ends with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning from 2025. Paramount+ Essential, the ad-supported tier, starts around $8.99 per month. Premium, the ad-free version, costs more, though it remains the only major service holding the full set under one subscription.

Amazon Prime Video includes some earlier films with a Prime membership or the Paramount+ channel add-on, and every title, including The Final Reckoning, can be rented or bought there. Apple TV and Fandango at Home offer the same. Pluto TV sometimes streams about the first five films for free with ads. Blu-ray and 4K sets suit collectors, and JustWatch helps confirm availability, which varies by country. Now anyone can watch the whole run and decide for themselves whether the verdict holds up.
