As reported by Variety, Paramount Pictures has officially scheduled the theatrical debut of the feature film Get Lite for release on April 9, 2027. Teyana Taylor is directing and executive producer. Storm Reid stars in this high-energy project while also serving as a producer alongside industry veteran Kenya Barris, Anni Weisband, Robyn Simpson, and Bill Karesh.
The film is currently in the completed stage of production with a screenplay written by Eric Gross. This rhythmic drama centers on a sheltered dance student who discovers a sense of belonging and inspiration within the underground Litefeet scene of the New York City subways. The story explores the friction between artistic passion and the rigid expectations of family life in the Bronx.
“Saunders, a headstrong Bronx teenager, is caught between his love of Litefeet subway dancing and his strict insistence on becoming an engineer,” the storyline reads on IMDb. This theatrical event is part of a broader push by Paramount to champion unique voices and culturally relevant narratives. Taylor aims to deliver a definitive entry into the contemporary dance genre, also hoping for a sequel to her hit movie.
This ambitious directorial debut arrives as the studio landscape undergoes a massive shift in theatrical volume.
Strategic shifts in Paramount's future slate
Data from Comscore indicates that a combined release strategy could result in dozens of Paramount films hitting theaters annually to maximize revenue. The schedule kicks off with action in Street Fighter on October 16, 2026, followed by the festive Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol on November 13. Families can look forward to The Angry Birds Movie 3 on December 23, while Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story rounds out the year on Christmas Day.
Early 2027 maintains this momentum with Children of Blood and Bone on January 15 and The Rescue on January 29. The spring and summer months of 2027 will see the return of massive franchises alongside fresh directorial visions. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 speeds into theaters on March 19, followed by Teyana Taylor’s Get Lite and a new Paranormal Activity installment on May 21.
