Hollywood is entering a whole new chapter, and David Ellison is sitting firmly at the center of it. Following the completion of the historic $111 billion merger, Skydance now brings Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Discovery under one roof, along with HBO Max, Paramount+, CNN, CBS and iconic franchises such as Harry Potter and Top Gun. Many across the industry have thoughts on the seismic new regime, and Donald Trump has decided to join the conversation, praising David Ellison while expressing immense respect for both Ellison and his father, Larry Ellison.
Amid the industry’s mixed reactions, David Ellison’s new Hollywood empire has received a notable thumbs-up from Donald Trump.
Donald Trump weighs in on David Ellison and Skydance
Donald Trump did not mince words when asked about the newly formed entertainment giant, offering an unusually warm assessment of the people now steering it. Rather than dwelling on the sheer scale of the deal, Trump focused on the Ellison family and made his confidence in their leadership perfectly clear.
“They’re terrific people, and it’s going to be a great company,” he told reporters.
The praise was largely directed toward David Ellison and Larry Ellison, two figures Trump has repeatedly described as friends and supporters. Trump has spoken warmly about both men on several occasions, highlighting a relationship that extends well beyond their latest Hollywood business venture. That familiarity made his latest endorsement of the Ellisons particularly pointed.

The Ellisons have also benefited from major opportunities during the Trump administration. Larry Ellison’s Oracle was selected to anchor the administration’s $500 billion AI data center plan and was chosen by Trump to run TikTok’s U.S. operations, while David Ellison has attended prestigious White House events, including a State Dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping.
While Trump’s Netflix InstaDocs: The Decoy Plane grabs attention, David Ellison’s Skydance is quietly making an even bigger splash.
David Ellison's plans for Skydance
The real spectacle may be what David Ellison plans to build once the headlines around Skydance settle. The new media giant is being shaped as a tech-first Hollywood powerhouse, with Ellison looking to fuse HBO Max and Paramount+ into one sprawling streaming destination. Artificial intelligence would also become a force multiplier across production, visual effects and content discovery.

That vision does not stop at streaming. David Ellison is also pursuing a $6 billion cost-efficiency drive while protecting a creative-first theatrical strategy that calls for at least 30 films each year. Meanwhile, tech veterans from Google, Meta and Scale AI are joining the leadership ranks, giving Skydance an unmistakably Silicon Valley-inspired blueprint for Hollywood.
