Taron Egerton Shatters His James Bond Prospects in Latest Interview, Claims His Path Is Less Grand
It is really hard to fathom any actor resisting the allure of playing James Bond on the big screen. There is no actor in the world who wouldn’t give anything to be able to embody the infectious charm, razor-sharp intellect, and incorrigible daring of Her Majesty’s secret agent.
Still, there are some who go ahead and dismiss even the mere possibility of playing the iconic role ever. And Taron Egerton just did exactly that.
Why did Taron Egerton pull himself out of the race to play Bond?

The 36-year old Welsh actor has made it very clear that he has no desire whatsoever to portray the larger-than-life character. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone and Variety AU/NZ, he explained why he wouldn’t be a good fit for 007.
“I don’t think I’m right for James Bond. I’ve never felt that that was me".
While he obviously recognizes the magnitude and the appeal of the character as a ‘cinematic institution,’ he feels there are other great and younger actors out there who might be better suited for the role. However, the main reason behind his ruling himself out might be his belief about himself and his career.
“I just feel that my path is less… kind of grand and idealised.”
Well, this isn’t the first time that Taron Egerton has publicly expressed his qualms about playing the celebrated spy. In a 2025 interview with Collider, he said that he would not be right for the role.
“No. And I don’t think I’m a good choice for it. I think I’m too messy for that.”
The contention for his possible candidature as the new Bond gained speed after his success in the Kingsman franchise. There, he pulled off something similar to the suave of the iconic English agent. From there onwards, fans longed to see Egerton in a Bond movie.
Nevertheless, there are a few others the fans would not mind seeing as the next James Bond.
Other candidates in the race
Ever since Daniel Craig hung up his boots as 007, there have been quite a few names making the rounds as most probably the next to take up the mantle. Most prominent among them is the Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is also famous for playing Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Alongside him, Henry Cavill’s name was also making the buzz, who has already impressed fans with espionage movies like The Man From U.N.C.L.E and Argylle.

However, there is a whole other side of the fans who want Idris Alba as their next James Bond. Currently, the internet has been making a compelling case for younger actors like Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Timothée Chalamet.
For now, it seems like the discussion is not going to be settled anytime soon. From Sir Sean Connery to Daniel Craig, the legacy feels like an excruciatingly heavy burden to bear for any actor. It’s in everybody’s best interest to give this crucial decision proper thought so that the fans can get a worthy James Bond.
