Resident Evil has long set the standard for survival horror, and its latest installment, directed by Zach Cregger, follows Bryan, a medical courier fighting against all odds to survive a sudden zombie outbreak. And for its lead actor, Austin Abrams, it became the survival horror genre personified, as he neatly escaped a fatal accident during the shoot.

While the horror parameters for the movie are already high, nothing meets Austin Abrams' retelling of the one scene that quite literally took him off, and it involves a lot of blood. 150 lb of blood to be precise.

Austin Abrams' near death encounter on Resident Evil set beats any zombie story

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Resident Evil has been around since 1996, as a video game and then as a Paul W.S. Anderson directorial in 2002. The latest instalment is based on the video game franchise and serves as a reboot by Zach Cregger. While this was Cregger's first time on this franchise, it almost became his lead star Austin Abrams' last as he narrowly escaped a 150 lb bag of blood. The scene, naturally, made the cut.

" It was not supposed to be that close, but it looks great," Cregger said regarding the incident while speaking to IGN.

Abrams further revealed to IGN that he barely registered what had happened and only found out how close he was to a fatal accident after the scene had wrapped. The take made the final cut, so what audiences see on screen is a moment of genuine danger.

With Austin Abrams near death scene featuring in the movie along with the solid backbone that the Resident Evil franchise stands on, the latest instalment is on its way to make box office records.

Zach Cregger's Resident Evil makes it big at the box office

While horror genre fans have been keeping the Resident Evil franchise afloat, the movies never made it big in the sense of box office success. However, the tide has turned for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, which has reached a collection of $124,894,895 since its release on September 18.

The box office collection for the movie is a huge success, especially given its $75 million budget. Whether the hype is a result of Zach Cregger's expertise, near fatal stunts performed by a talented cast, or a combination of both can not be measured, but that Austin Abrams will always remember the scene remains confirmed.
