What started as backlash over one American Eagle ad has snowballed into a full-on socio-political reckoning in pop culture. Recently, Batwoman's Ruby Rose dissed Sydney Sweeney for ruining Christy, claiming that her depiction was tone-deaf against the backdrop of the controversy. Next, Hannah Montana star Emily Osment liked an Instagram post regarding Rose's comments. Even Barbie breakout Ariana Greenblatt liked a meme that compared Sweeney’s recent infamous interview clip with a scene from Inglourious Basterds, shading Sweeney.

The list of celebrities piling up against Sweeney continued as, alongside Greenblatt, Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens hopped on the train. He did not hesitate to call her infamous GQ interview out by sharing Timothy Troy’s thread on his Instagram Stories that pointed out Sweeney "not having a stance" on white supremacy is telling of her stance. Aimee Lou Wood straight-up commented a puke emoji under a post that slammed Sweeney. Meanwhile, her Euphoria co-star Zendaya has reportedly distanced herself from her. SZA, Christina Ricci, and more have liked several Instagram posts that criticized Sweeney's refusal to push back on racist allegations, even when an opportunity presented itself.

Sydney Sweeney's scandals are not limited to her voter registration, advertisements, or brand collabs. Even when attempting to change the narrative-orchestrating film promotions and charity appearances, the internet proved relentless.

Sydney Sweeney's never-ending controversies in a nutshell

Hollywood loves a scandal before a major comeback, but in the case of Sydney Sweeney, that backfired. From bathwater soaps to questionable dating choices and racism, now, with more fuel thrown into the fire, Sweeney's past interviews and Republican inclinations have circulated, renewing several accusations. What began with her refusal to admit the eugenics allegations on the American Eagle jeans ad escalated to mass bashing online, leading her highly anticipated Christy Martin movie to flop at the box office. However, she brushed off the film's disastrous performance with a generic Instagram post.

Every single attempt by Sweeney's PR to shift the narrative only made things worse. When given a platform to clarify her stance on white supremacist allegations, Sweeney stated in her GQ interview, "I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear." She also found Donald Trump's support to be "surreal," which further ignited chaos. For Sweeney, the timing of these scandals could not be worse, as her new projects in the pipeline seem to be at risk of altered public perception.
