Sydney Sweeney has started filming The Housemaid’s Secret alongside Kirsten Dunst and a fresh batch of co-stars. Sweeney’s cleaning cart is back on the road, and this time it is rolling into a house with more locked doors than a magician’s closet. Sequels live or die on first impressions, and this one has opened with a hug and a very happy cast. Whatever hides behind that door must be good.

While the cameras have barely started rolling, the clip already looks like a reunion party, and here is exactly who showed up to celebrate.

Production on The Housemaid’s Secret, also called The Housemaid 2, is now officially underway. The announcement arrived on October 15, 2026, as a short clip of about 16 seconds. In it, Sydney Sweeney hugs Kirsten Dunst while Brittany Snow dances nearby, and Michele Morrone poses beside a Lionsgate Stage 1 sign. Production has also been spotted in Hoboken, New Jersey, and the film is set to reach theaters on December 17, 2027.

Official The Housemaid X account confirmed the cast with the clip, while Dunst is set to play Wendy Garrick. Fans know her as Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man trilogy, and she earned an Oscar nomination for The Power of the Dog. Snow plays Marybeth after playing Chloe in Pitch Perfect. Paul Anthony Kelly plays Douglas Garrick after playing JFK Jr in Love Story, and Stephen Kalyn plays Brock after his breakout in Off Campus.

Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried’s 'The Housemaid' Leaves Critics Reeling While Audiences Beg for More Chaos

With this many familiar faces on set, the obvious question is whether the first film earned them a sequel.

How The Housemaid performed and how close it stayed to the book

The Housemaid (2025) turned a $35 million budget into roughly $400 million worldwide. It opened with about $19 million domestically in mid-December 2025, then held steady through the holidays on word of mouth. That run explains why the sequel was greenlit so quickly. The story stayed close to Freida McFadden’s novel, though director Paul Feig expanded the ending, and Andrew falls down the stairs instead of dying in the attic.

No changes have been confirmed for the sequel, but Feig and screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine are both returning. The official logline already matches the book, where Millie cleans a penthouse owned by a tech executive whose wife stays locked in a guest room. Expect the big twists to survive, with room for sharper pacing and a bigger final act, just as last time. Cameras are rolling, the guest room door is locked, and Sydney Sweeney and Kirsten Dunst are about to find out who holds the key.
