From mastering High Valyrian in House of the Dragon to speaking Kryptonian in James Gunn’s DC Universe, Milly Alcock seems to have developed a habit of learning fictional languages. As anticipation continues to build around Supergirl, the actress recently opened up about the surprisingly simple process she used to prepare for the role.
If Alcock’s latest revelation proves anything, it is that saving worlds may be easier than memorizing an entirely new language

When asked by Cinemark about learning Kryptonian for Supergirl, Alcock admitted she only had a few weeks to prepare and relied on a process familiar from her House of the Dragon days. The actress explained that she received the dialogue as audio recordings, phonetic spellings, and full written scripts, then listened to them repeatedly until the language settled into a rhythm. Comparing the process to learning a song in another language, Alcock said repetition became the key to making the alien dialect feel natural on screen.
"So basically I did kind of the same thing I did on House of the Dragon with High Valerian. I would get it sent as an audio track and then I would get it, phonetically written out and then I would get it written all together." Alcock told Cinemark.
The results apparently left quite an impression on set. Recalling the experience, a fellow cast member revealed they were stunned watching Alcock seamlessly switch into an entirely different language while delivering an emotional performance. The moment they said was genuinely eye-opening and offered a glimpse of the commitment Alcock brought to bringing Kara Zor-El to life.
While Alcock’s Kryptonian skills may have left her castmates stunned, Supergirl is already soaring near the top of 2026’s most anticipated release list.
