Supergirl has an unexpected yet amusing connection with one of Earth's most adorable animals, and that is a squirrel. Moving away from the usual superhero storytelling, James Gunn's Supergirl draws inspiration from the comics while also embracing deeper emotional and human elements. As Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, revealed, her character will remind people of the tiny creatures.
Here is how the bushy-tailed creatures inspired one of the most crucial parts of the movie, Supergirl.

Milly Alcock can be seen in a powerful landing pose in several Supergirl posters, with one fist on the ground while her other arm extends upward behind her. The poster has been making the rounds on social media, but what many fans do not know is that the pose was actually inspired by a squirrel's landing position. Alcock revealed the bizarre inspiration during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“I took probably because they're so nimble and it's so fast,” she said.
Speaking to Fallon on the show, he added that the movie's standby stills photographer revealed the inspiration behind the pose to her. When she looked it up online, she discovered that images of squirrels landing looked almost identical to her Supergirl pose. Even in several scenes, including those featuring Supergirl's superdog, the film had a creative and distinctive visual approach. The production also had a dedicated props team that created props specifically for the movie.
Much like the creative crew, Milly Alcock also relied on her lessons from previous projects for the film.
Milly Alcock leaned on House of The Dragon experience to learn Kryptonian
In an interview with Cinemark, Milly Alcock revealed that she had only a few weeks to learn Kryptonian for Supergirl. To prepare, she relied on the same approach she had used for her previous series, House of the Dragon. She explained that repetition was the key to mastering the fictional language.
“So basically I did kind of the same thing I did on House of the Dragon with High Valerian. I would get it sent as an audio track and then I would get it, phonetically written out and then I would get it written all together." Alcock told Cinemark.

And her efforts paid off. Her fellow cast member praised her ability to switch seamlessly between the two languages. From learning a fictional language inspired by the world of dragons to squirrel's inspiration, the process of making Supergirl was certainly a unique one.
