While critics and audiences seem to be speaking two completely different languages this year, Supergirl has become the latest battleground. After the film’s low critics’ score raised fresh concerns about the future of James Gunn’s DCU, verified moviegoers pushed its Rotten Tomatoes audience score to another level, once again reigniting the long-running debate over whether critics and fans are watching the same movie. And as audiences rally behind Milly Alcock’s debut as Kara Zor-El, social media has quickly shifted its focus to the critics themselves.

So, what audience score did Supergirl actually earn, and why has it ignited another critics-versus-fans showdown?

With over 500 verified ratings, Supergirl has debuted with a 75% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, comfortably outpacing its 59% critics’ score. The gap has instantly become one of the film’s biggest talking points, with many fans arguing that while critics praised Milly Alcock’s standout performance as Kara Zor-El, they were far too harsh on the screenplay, pacing, and visuals. Although some acknowledged that a 75% audience score is no groundbreaking for a superhero film, many viewed it as proof that moviegoers and critics simply are not  seeing the same film.

The audience verdict has not silenced every concern, though. Some fans called the score respectable but still underwhelming for a major DC release, arguing that the film’s true test now lies at the global box office. Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl is the second official chapter in James Gunn’s new DC Universe and a live-action adaptation of Tom King’s celebrated Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, making every milestone far more significant for the franchise’s future

'Supergirl’ Low Rotten Tomatoes Score Raises Early Concerns for James Gunn’s DCU

With critics and audiences still locked in debate, there is only one way to decide which side you are on.

When and where to watch Supergirl?

Supergirl officially is set to roll in theaters today, Friday, June 26, 2026, making cinemas the only place to watch the film for now. The story follows Kara Zor-El, whose traumatic childhood on a dying fragment of Krypton sets her on a dangerous mission across the galaxy. Her journey takes a dramatic turn when she joins Ruthye in hunting down the ruthless Krem after Krypto the Superdog is left fighting for his life.

The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, alongside Eve Ridley as Ruthye, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and David Corenswet reprising his role as Superman. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film serves as the second chapter in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Interestingly, this is not Kara’s first solo outing, with the character previously headlining the 1984 Supergirl film, a spin-off of Christopher Reeve’s iconic Superman franchise.

And whether Kara Zor-El’s latest adventure silences the critics or strengthens the audience’s support, the Girl of Steel’s newest chapter is finally ready to make its mark.
