Street Fighter has always behaved like somebody kicked an arcade cabinet down a staircase and somehow created art. Ryu throws fire from his palms, Blanka is an electrified green man-beast, Zangief treats human spines like folding chairs, and M. Bison enters every room with the energy of a dictator who discovered cheat codes.
Kitao Sakurai’s new movie appears determined to bottle that beautiful insanity instead of sanding it into respectable Hollywood realism. The first round has not even reached theaters, yet the creative team is already scribbling ideas for another.
There is just one boss battle standing between Street Fighter and Round Two: the box office.
Sakurai is already thinking about Round Two of Street Fighter
Speaking with MovieWeb, Kitao Sakurai confirmed that sequel ideas for Street Fighter are actively being developed even though Paramount and Legendary have not officially ordered another movie.
“It’s something that we’re thinking about and developing,” he explained.
Sakurai that the team has “a lot of ideas” and is already writing. His enthusiasm comes with one enormous flashing health bar: audiences still have to show up.

The director has deliberately avoided promising exactly what comes next. Sakurai told MovieWeb that further films would depend heavily on how fans respond to his vision. The first movie already has plenty of ammunition for franchise building. Set in 1993, it follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken as Chun-Li pulls them into the World Warrior Tournament, where a conspiracy forces old friendships and buried demons back into the ring.
Andrew Koji plays Ryu, Noah Centineo is Ken, Callina Liang becomes Chun-Li, Jason Momoa goes feral as Blanka, and Roman Reigns enters as Akuma. Street Fighter hits theaters October 16, 2026. Then the audience gets to decide whether Player Two joins the game.
While Ryu and Ken wait for the box office bell, another gaming giant has just punched its ticket into live action.
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a live-action movie
Night City is also preparing to trade controllers for cameras. Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film in partnership with CD Projekt Red, with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached. Plot, cast, director and release date remain secret, leaving the project at the earliest stage of its trip through the neon jungle.

The announcement arrives after years of expansion around the game’s universe. CD Projekt Red previously partnered with Anonymous Content in 2023 on a separate live-action project set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. That announcement described a brand-new story and said the company was searching for a screenwriter, though it never formally identified the production as a television series.
The franchise has already proved that Night City can thrive away from the console. Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners became a major success, while Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 arrives October 20 with a fresh cast and a new revenge story.
