There is something about dog movies; the moment one enters the film, they instantly know that they are in for a moving adventure. Perhaps that is why Hollywood has relied so much on them for delivering a touching and poignant experience. Apparently, filming with them can also be quite moving, with each day feeling like fun and filled with new experiences. Well, this is what Brad Pitt has said about working with his canine co-star in Heart of the Beast.  

The F1 actor has discussed in detail his on-set experience filming with the pooch every day.

At the San Sebastian Film Festival on Wednesday, Brad Pitt got into the process of filming with his German Shepherd co-star named Uber, in the movie, Heart of the Beast. He was very appreciative of the fact that he got to collaborate with Uber and then discussed what it was like working with him. He went on to describe the overall experience as “really moving.”

“We tried to make every day a play day for him. There were times he would do things that were just amazing that were not in the script that you see in the film, and his expressions still really move me,” said the actor.

Reflecting on the grueling New Zealand shoot for Heart of the Beast, Pitt described the experience of working alongside a canine co-star as uniquely special. He also noted that enduring the harsh elements alongside the animal fostered a shared camaraderie among the crew.

"Being out there with this beautiful beast was pretty special… it was really kind of beautiful," Pitt shared, recounting the demanding conditions. 

"We’re out in this beautiful location. We’re wet, we’re cold, 12 hours a day. We don’t have trailers. We’re sitting out on logs, but everyone’s kind of up for the task," the actor added.

Brad Pitt further mentions in the San Sebastian press interaction that the presence of the dog served as an instant morale booster for everyone involved, explaining that whenever the animal stepped onto the set, the collective energy noticeably shifted, lifting the cast and crew's spirits.

Brad Pitt’s appreciation was not just limited to his cute co-star, but extended to the current state of the industry and how it is giving space to independent cinema to thrive.

Beyond praising his co-star, Uber, Brad Pitt - who also serves as a producer on the film through his Plan B banner - hailed the current landscape of independent filmmaking, arguing that the modern distribution model is fostering a uniquely vibrant environment for creator-driven storytelling. According to the actor, contemporary platforms have successfully driven larger audiences toward independent projects, creating an ecosystem that he believes rivals the creative strength of the 1990s. 

Director David Ayer echoed that sentiment, pointing to emerging talent pipelines originating from YouTube and digital platforms. Once marginalized by traditional studios, Ayer noted that these digital spaces are now serving as a powerful incubator for a new wave of visionary filmmakers. Ayer and Pitt are currently looking forward to the official release of Heart of the Beast on September 25, 2026.
