Many fans were stunned by the abrupt exit of actress Helena Bonham Carter from The White Lotus season 4. The role was written specifically for The Crown actress by creator Mike White. However, she allegedly left due to the creative differences, as per Variety, as she was not “boisterous” enough in her performance.

Now, co-star Steve Coogan has spoken out about the major upheaval in season 4.

“It just went in a different direction. It's like, you know, sometimes you find that something isn't working the way you want it to in terms of like the character and the dynamic of the whole story,” Coogan told Deadline on the BAFTA red carpet.

“So that was sort of, that was just a mutual decision that, you know, we need, the whole part was rewritten from scratch,” the actor said,  talking about Carter's untimely exit. As for himself, Coogan said that Mike White’s love of cult British indie movies is why he joined The White Lotus Season 4. The actor told Deadline that he was in and out of the south of France, where the HBO show is currently shooting.
