‘Spider-Noir’ Starts Off With a Bang With 90% Debut Score

The 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was not just an attempt by Sony Pictures to add another Spider-Man title to its repertoire, but a revolutionary step in pushing the boundaries for the type of stories that can be pulled out of the comics. The audience loved Sony’s attempt, and what they loved even more was all the different kinds of Spider-Man from the comics. One of them was Spider-Noir, voiced by none other than Nicolas Cage.
His magnetic voice intrigues the viewers so much that now there is a standalone series that made a grand debut on Amazon Prime. The Nicolas Cage series has rocked Rotten Tomatoes, garnering an impressive 90% debut score.
Spider-Noir gets a 90% fresh rating

The Spider-Noir series starring Nicolas Cage has received its first reviews. The new series appears to have succeeded in taking a risk with the Spider-Man mythology. With 29 reviews, Spider-Noir now has an excellent 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The majority of critics have praised the film's visual aesthetic and Cage's portrayal of Ben Reilly.
The reviews on the platform praised the show's bold attempt to present the beloved superhero in an entirely different era and light. The show seems to be witty with a strong central character. They also lauded the character design and cohesive storytelling. Overall, the show was declared a fun watch with beautiful aesthetics.
Sony Pictures Television produced Spider-Noir just for MGM+ and Prime Video. The first two episodes were executive-produced and directed by Harry Bradbeer. Steve Lightfoot and Oren Uziel are executive producers and co-showrunners. Amy Pascal, Christopher Miller, and Phil Lord from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse collaborated with Uziel and Lightfoot to develop the series. On May 25, 2026, Spider-Noir will make its MGM+ debut. On May 27, it will be available worldwide on Prime Video with both color and black-and-white versions to be streamed simultaneously.
Even though the general sentiment regarding the show on Rotten Tomatoes was positive, it had its fair share of criticism, too.
Some of the negatives of Spider-Man Noir
The criticism against Spider-Noir centered around its lacklustre villains that do not seem to pose a threat great enough to dramatically raise the stakes. Some also criticised the series for using the sme old repetitive tropes of a superhero story. While the series was fun overall, for some, there were instances when it felt boring and stretched.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day also on the horizon, Spider-Noir’s Rotten Tomatoes success reinforces confidence in Spider-Man projects and also adds to the buzz around the upcoming movie. While people wait for the third part of Tom Holland’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, they can enjoy a very old-fashioned and suave rendition of the masked vigilante by Nicolas Cage.
