Tom Holland has revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day borrowed its inspiration from The Lego Batman Movie. Yes, the animated comedy about a plastic Dark Knight somehow found its way into a Marvel writers' room. The idea landed while the actor was helping shape a very different, much quieter Peter Parker. The comparison sounds like a joke, yet it explains a great deal about the overall tone of the film.

While Bruce Wayne ate lobster alone, Parker faced quiet evenings too, and Holland explains how one lonely night inspired the other.

Tom Holland credits The Lego Batman Movie's lonely Batman scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The scene sets Batman up as a man with a wild social life, then cuts to him sitting alone at home. Holland sent that clip to director Destin Daniel Cretton as a template for Peter Parker's quiet, unseen life.

"When they think 'Batman must be going home and having parties with all his friends and dating supermodels' and then it cuts to him in his house alone," He told Accion Cine Series.

He added, "I remember sending that to Destin being like 'we should do something like this.'" 

The Accion Cine Series chat fits a pattern, since Holland has taken his first real seat in the writers' room on this film. He has pitched ideas drawn from fan feedback, comics, the Insomniac games, and earlier Spider-Man suits. Those ideas sit inside a story where the world forgot Parker after Spider-Man: No Way Home. MJ and Ned moved on without knowing him, leaving the hero to guard New York alone.

While Parker enjoys a quiet night in, the box office has been anything but quiet, and a fifth film looms.

Spider-Man 5 has no release date yet, but the numbers make a strong case. Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $360 million domestically on opening weekend, passing the record held by Avengers: Endgame, and reached $932 million worldwide in three days. Kevin Feige told Variety that there are always plans. He also said Tom Holland and Zendaya will take a good, restful victory lap after their global press tour, since both deserve it.

Feige also noted that part of the Multiverse Saga must finish before Spider-Man 5 gets its turn. Avengers: Doomsday arrives this December, and another Avengers film follows in December 2027. Sony's animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse lands in theaters in June 2027. Holland wants to play Parker as long as possible, and a plan for the eventual handoff already exists. Spider-Man owes a thank you to a lonely Lego Batman.
