While the web-slinger swings through these giant glass buildings, the passing imagery is just too amazing to ignore. And if you missed it amidst the chaos of the events happening in the movie, Cretton has a whole end credits montage dedicated to the city.

When the credits roll, we see video clips from all over New York City: the moving traffic with the iconic taxi cabs of the perfect shade of yellow, kids playing in Central Park, and the beautiful people of New York just going about their day. The lively culture and undeniable charm of New York are pretty apparent in the montage, as is Cretton’s love for the Big Apple.

The aesthetics are in sharp contrast to the previous Spider-Man movies, and maybe it is what has worked in favor of the general background imagery.

In comparison to previous Spider-Man movies, where the frames have always been on the brighter side, especially with The Amazing Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a dull, slightly darker tinge to the frames. It might be because of the tone of the movie, which complements Peter’s overall lonely and sad mood over his lost identity in the film.

But together with the city lights, it creates a contrast that is just so pleasant and cool to look at. And it especially works wonders when the web-slinger is whizzing past the skyscraper at night, when the contrast is at its peak. Destin Daniel Cretton really understood what New York means in Spider-Man’s story; it is not just his place of origin but also a large part of who he is, and Cretton makes sure that the city is seen in the movie the same way.
