It is a brand new day for the fourth Spider-Man movie in Tom Holland's reign as it nears a major box office milestone, one that will tip Titanic off its glacial success. Tom Holland returned as Peter Parker in the latest installment of Marvel’s long-running Spider-Man franchise, with previous movies proving to be major global box-office successes. Meanwhile, James Cameron’s Titanic has been a fixture on the highest-grossing films list since its release in 1997, thanks to several theatrical re-releases over the years.
Now, the two blockbuster giants are about to clash on the all-time global box office chart.
Spider-Man is on the verge of pulling off a box-office upset that could rewrite Hollywood history.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is not far from dethroning Titanic
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now just $44 million away from knocking Titanic out of the all-time global box-office top five. The film added $39 million domestically and $109 million internationally over the weekend, to take its totals to $854.9 million in North America, according to Box Office Mojo. It has gotten a strong theatrical run and is expected to overtake James Cameron’s Oscar-winning 1997 classic within the next week or so.

The international haul continues to be a big boost to the film’s theatrical run as Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now grossed $2.22 billion worldwide, as per Box Office Mojo. The film has grossed $1.365 billion internationally. The strong overseas showing has helped nudge the Marvel blockbuster closer to the all-time global box office top five, with its impressive worldwide total putting it within striking distance of James Cameron’s Titanic.
Meanwhile, Titanic has earned $2.265 billion worldwide over all of its releases in theaters. The remaining haul, which was $1.59 billion, came from international markets, with the domestic market accounting for $674.35 million. The film’s huge international performance has kept it among the highest-grossing films in box-office history, decades after its original 1997 release and even through multiple theatrical re-releases.
But Titanic is not the only blockbuster making waves, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day is rewriting the record books.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day makes box office history with multiple records
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already smashed numerous box office records in its blockbuster run. The film's over $2.22 billion gross worldwide has surpassed major hits like Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is also now Sony’s biggest release ever, eclipsing the $1.9 billion haul of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film has also created history in India by becoming the highest-grossing Hollywood release, beating the milestones set by Avengers: Endgame and Avatar: The Way of Water.
