Spider-Man is finally returning to theaters after nearly four years, and it looks set to do so with a huge bang. This will be Tom Holland's first film as the web-slinger since Spider-Man: No Way Home. The previous film ended with Peter Parker's decision to live anonymously, separated from his friends Ned and MJ.

Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day throws the superhero into the middle of massive threats, dangerous enemies, and, perhaps worst of all, an unknown mutation. So, the hype is understandably high. And coupled with its soaring pre-sales, the movie is expected to become one of Sony’s biggest openings of all time.

As Deadline recently reported, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to open to an estimated $465 million at the global box office. If the film reaches or soars past the number, it would become Sony's second-biggest global opening ever. The top spot is still held by another Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which debuted to more than $600 million worldwide.

Whether it sets a new record or not, the movie is already set to be one of the biggest openings of the year. North American presales are reportedly tracking at around $80 million. It is slightly ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $78 million in presales, as per Deadline.

This time, Tom Holland's Peter Parker will take a darker, more grounded path after the world has forgotten who he is. What makes the film's success so important is that it could also shape the future of the franchise. A fifth Spider-Man movie is much talked about among fans, but there have been no official updates.

If Holland's recent comments about the franchise's future are any indication, the fourth movie's performance could also play a role in determining whether another sequel moves forward.

With speculation already growing around a fifth Spider-Man movie, Tom Holland was recently asked whether he would return to reprise his role as Peter Parker. Instead of dodging the question, the actor gave a confident response, saying he would happily return to the franchise as long as Sony and Marvel wanted him back. At the same time, he dropped a subtle hint that the series' future could depend on how the upcoming film performs.

“I will do it for as long as they’ll have me. So if this movie does good, I guess we’ll see!” he told The Hollywood Reporter. 

Earlier, in an interview with GQ, Holland worried fans by saying he did not want to keep playing Spider-Man after turning 30. However, he later revealed that he was only trying to scare Sony and jokingly raised that age to 37 instead. That means the actor still has plenty of time left to suit up as the web-slinger once again. For now, the future looks quite optimistic, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day expected to be a major success and a fifth movie looking increasingly likely.
