Sony Pictures Animation Film Outkicks 'Wuthering Heights' to Lead the Domestic Box Office
Be it the powerful cast of Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie or the fact that it is an adaptation of one of the famous classics, Wuthering Heights has not stopped gaining traction. After all, the doomed romance of Heathcliff and Catherine has always attracted readers and fans. While Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights had the potential to make a strong impact with a February release and could have gone all out with its domestic release, it was another project that ultimately seized the moment.
Produced by NBA superstar Stephen Curry, an animated movie is already quite the rage among both younger viewers and adults. And the movie seems to have already surpassed Wuthering Heights in one aspect.
Sony Pictures Animation Film takes the lead over Wuthering Heights

The Global Box Office recently dropped a surprising update on two of the biggest releases of February 13, 2026. As per the post on X, Sony Pictures Animation film, GOAT has become the biggest domestic release this weekend. The movie, directed by Tyree Dillahay and Adam Rosette, is opening in 3.86K locations, while Wuthering Heights, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, will debut in 3.68k theaters.
The faith in the GOAT is not surprising considering its star-studded cast featuring some of the notable names of Hollywood. Stephen Curry, who is also the producer of the film, has a small but crucial voice role in the movie. Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Aaron Pierre, Jennifer Hudson, and many more joined the cast as voice actors.
This movie follows the story of a young goat named Will, who wants to play Roarball, a game like basketball, in a league where big, strong animals play. It is also inspired by Curry’s struggles to make his impact in the NBA. Now, both movies have received impressive Rotten Tomatoes ratings, with GOAT securing 82%.
The same can be said of Wuthering Heights, which was well received by its critics.

The trailer for Wuthering Heights, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, received mixed reactions, with viewers divided over its portrayal of the characters and the direction of the classic story. While some welcomed the fresh take on the classic, others expressed a preference for a more traditional adaptation. Amid strong anticipation, however, the film ultimately earned a 71% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Based on nearly 45 early critic reviews, it was clearly a win with critics. But as of now, the movie does not have an official streaming release date, and it is still too early to determine its box office fate. But with solid critical backing and constant chatter, Wuthering Heights appears to be off to a promising start.
