Chloe Troast has revealed why getting fired from Saturday Night Live brought her a sense of relief. The comedian and actress sat down for a candid conversation that gave fans a rare look at life behind the cameras. Some endings sound dramatic from the outside but feel very different to the person living them. Her story begins with a nagging hunch about her future at the show, and it eventually proved correct.

While most people fear the news that ends a dream job, Troast found real comfort once the wait finally ended.

Chloe Troast felt relieved to be fired from Saturday Night Live because the decision ended a long stretch of waiting. She appeared on season 49 and was placed on hold over the summer. The hold came with a wave of seemingly negative comments from the show’s creative team, which made the wait even heavier.

“And there’s some type of relief in that,” she said on a recent episode of the But Also With Michael and Asher podcast.

She added, “I was relieved to know that I wouldn’t then have to walk into a place that I was now deeply scared of.”

On the But Also With Michael and Asher podcast, the 29-year-old did not share the comments she received from the creative team, yet she made clear that the hold and the feedback changed the workplace for her permanently. Returning meant facing people she now saw very differently, which filled her with dread and anxiety. The exit also brought comfort, since writers and cast members flooded her with calls while the public and friends remained unaware, and she still performs shows with them.

Saturday Night Live makes behind-the-scenes power moves for Season 52

Saturday Night Live premiered Season 52 on September 26, 2026, after quietly reshuffling its behind-the-scenes team. Keri Powers became the sole head of the talent department, which meant she oversaw bookings for hosts, musical guests, and guest stars. She joined the show in 2014 after working at Paramount Pictures and CAA, and took over after Brian Siedlecki left. Rebecca Schwartz, with the show since 2015, was promoted to producer.

The cast changed as much as the crew, with Chloe Fineman leaving after seven years and Martin Herlihy and Bowen Yang also departing. Kenan Thompson, Colin Jost, Michael Che, and Sarah Sherman were among the returning faces, while Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline were promoted to main cast. Grace Reiter, known for The Chair Company, joined alongside filmmaker Saidah Belo-Osagie. Chloe Troast, meanwhile, had no seat to fight for in the new lineup, and that suited her just fine.
