In 2002, Nicole Kidman won the Oscar for Best Actress for her impressive performance as Virginia Woolf in The Hours. During her recent appearance on Therapuss with Jake Shane, she described winning the award as the biggest moment of her life and the pinnacle of her success. However, she quickly added that when she returned home with the golden statue, she was overcome by a wave of loneliness.

“I had, like, I have my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, where's my partner?” she said.

“I'm holding this gold statue where you go ‘this is it.’ The highest sort of prize you can get in our industry, and so grateful And yet, so lonely,” she recalled. 

Kidman shared on the podcast that the moment urged her to focus on her personal life. This came after Kidman’s divorce from Tom Cruise in 2001. During their marriage, the couple adopted two children, Isabella and Connor Cruise. Although they shared joint custody of their children, the siblings chose to live primarily with Cruise.

However, this heartbreaking realization of loneliness after her Oscar win eventually urged Kidman to open her heart to love again.

Nearly two years after Nicole Kidman’s Oscar win, the actress met country star Keith Urban at a G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles. The two began dating, tied the knot in 2006, and went on to welcome two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. During a conversation with Gayle King, Kidman opened up about how grateful and happy she was to have met Urban.

"That man is the best thing that's ever happened to me," she said.

Early in 2026, the couple announced their separation after 19 years of marriage. During the divorce proceedings, Kidman was given custody of their two daughters with Urban. While Kidman has found love and fulfillment in her personal life, her Oscar win became a crucial moment that ultimately guided her toward a different path.
