Shrek is easily one of the few franchises with an almost perfect run of films. The last movie about the green ogre was released in 2010. While the franchise’s spin-offs have kept fans entertained, audiences have long been waiting for the much-anticipated fifth installment.

Now that the movie is finally set to return, many are curious about whether the original cast members who made these iconic characters even more amusing will reprise their roles. Much to fans’ relief, this spectacular adventure will feature both familiar and new voices, which is worth knowing before the movie premieres next year.

Eddie Murphy as Donkey: Eddie Murphy is a Golden Globe award-winning actor and comedian. He previously starred in Daddy Day Care, Norbit, and other films. And he is confirmed to return as Donkey in Shrek 5.

Mike Myers as Shrek: Mike Myers is an Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian who rose to fame during his time in Saturday Night Live. He will return to lend his voice to Shrek.

Cameron Diaz as Fiona: Cameron Diaz is well known for her roles in Holiday and Charlie’s Angels. She will return to lend her voice to Fiona. 

Zendaya as Felicia: Zendaya is known for her performance in Euphoria and Dune. She is the new member to join the cast of Shrek 5. The actress will lend her voice to Felicia, Shrek and Fiona's daughter.

Skyler Gisondo as Fergus: Skyler Gisondo has previously appeared in Licorice Pizza, Booksmart, Vacation, and Superman. He will voice Shrek and Fiona's son, Fergus, in Shrek 5.

Marcello Hernández as Farkle: Marcello Hernández is a famed actor and comedian. He is best known for his performance on Saturday Night Live. He will voice Shrek and Fiona's son, Farkle, in Shrek 5.

While the returning cast was confirmed as early as 2024, the newer members were later revealed in 2025. With the voice cast confirmed, the focus is on what adventures fans can expect in Shrek 5.

The plot of Shrek 5 has not been revealed yet. However, the first trailer is already out and shares some intriguing glimpses of what the film has in store. The trailer features Shrek and Fiona alongside their children, with the family seemingly ending up in jail in the final moments. While the reason behind the family’s misery remains a secret, the characters are confirmed to be returning to the magical land of Far, Far Away, where they will encounter a new set of bizarre characters.

Walt Dohrn, who has previously worked on several Shrek films as a writer, director, and voice actor, will direct the fifth installment. While the movie was originally scheduled to arrive in July 2026, it was delayed and is now set to release on June 30, 2027. Until Shrek 5 a, fans can binge-watch the previous Shrek movies.
