Kristin Davis, on her podcast Are You a Charlotte?, spoke about her relationship with the costume designer, Patricia Field, for S** and the City and revealed that the designer, did not like that she was “curvier” among the four cast members. She opened up about how this led to a “rough” relationship early in their time together. However, she told her former S** and the City co-star Evan Handler that, over the years of working together, their relationship had improved.

“She would just be so frustrated with my curves because at the time when we started — 1998 or whatever it was, 1997 — everything was straight, like straight. And I’ve never been straight, nothing, no amount of dieting,” Davis said.

During the podcast, where guests talk about their time working in S** and the City, she revealed that she even chose a diet like a ballet dancer but later opted for healthier food. She further added that, by the sixth season, Field had come to accept Davis’s curvy figure. Davis also admitted that she liked the wedding gown designed for her character that season. As for the spin-off series and films, Molly Rogers, who worked closely with Field, and Danny Santiago took over the costume department.

However, Davis was not the only one who had issues with her costumes, as her former SATC co-star Evan Handler also expressed dissatisfaction with his costumes on the show.

Evan Handler was not fond of ill-fitting outfits in SATC

Kristin Davis was not the only one who initially had issues with costume designer Patricia Field. Evan Handler, who played Davis’s onscreen husband, Harry Goldenblatt, also spoke about his costumes. While acknowledging that his character was meant to be a simple guy, Handler admitted that he was not fond of wearing “ill-fitting” suits.

“And I was being given these, what felt to me at the time, kind of ill-fitting, stiff, not very attractive suits and ugly ties,” he said. “And she kept [telling me], ‘I’m going to show you the greatest thing ever.’ And I would think it was hideous.”

During the show, he explained that he did not express his feelings much at the time, as he was still new to the show. However, Handler admitted that Field’s fashion was one of the show’s most successful elements. Now, fashion played an equally important role in the show while complementing its exploration of friendships and life’s challenges.
