In a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jeffrey Dean Morgan shared his experience of portraying the ruthless villain Negan on The Walking Dead. He shared how, once, an elderly woman approached him, smacked him with her purse, and repeatedly dropped explicit curse words in anger.
“But when she saw me, the older lady, she smacked me with her purse and started swearing at me like dropping F-bombs, and it was like serious,” he said. This happened during a motorcycle trip through Georgia with co-star Norman Reedus. Morgan experienced the shocking confrontation at a local coffee shop. Reedus immediately urged him to leave the area because the woman was genuinely furious.
“I remember Norman was like, ‘We got to go.’ Like we got to get the hell out of here,” he added. Fans still harbor deep anger toward him because his character, Negan, brutally m******* beloved survivors like Glenn on screen.

The evolution of Negan across The Walking Dead universe
Negan debuts in The Walking Dead wielding a barbed-wire baseball bat named Lucille to execute core group members. He enforces a tyrannical reign over surrounding communities by using sheer terror and demanding half of their supplies. This brutal leadership style eventually triggers a massive conflict known across the television universe as the All-Out War.
Following his defeat by Rick Grimes, Negan spends years locked inside an Alexandria prison cell facing complete isolation. During his long imprisonment, he forms a bond with young Judith Grimes and slowly reflects upon his past choices. He later earns partial freedom by infiltrating the enemy camp and executing the dangerous Whisperer leader named Alpha.
