Shawn Levy's Deadpool & Wolverine broke decades-old Hollywood industry norms in less than one month. It shattered the record for the biggest R-rated global opening ever within the first 3 days of its release, grossed over $395.6 million by the second week, and crossed the billion-dollar mark before the month was even over. This immediately elevated director Levy from a reliable studio hitmaker to one of the most powerful and credible filmmakers in Hollywood. And Disney executives have recognized that as well.  

Shawn Levy is officially leaving Netflix to sign a historic overall deal with 20th Television. 

Shawn Levy is officially expanding his partnership with Disney. The filmmaker and his production company, 21 Laps Entertainment, have signed a new overall deal with Disney’s 20th Television. The deal will see the company develop and produce series across Disney Entertainment’s portfolio of platforms and brands. 

"Shawn has a rare ability to tell stories that are wildly entertaining and deeply human, something he’s brought to Disney across two decades," Dana Walden, Disney’s President and Chief Creative Officer, said in a statement.

Shawn also recalled his early days in a statement, saying, "I’ve always felt a kindred spirit in Disney and their storytelling ethos".

The move follows the end of Levy’s long-running relationship with Netflix, where he played a key role in producing the hugely successful Stranger Things. Meanwhile, Disney has also entrusted him with some of its most valuable cinematic universes.

Shawn Levy is taking on projects across Disney's two largest cinematic brands, both starring Ryan Gosling.

Shawn Levy is working on Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling. The film is set five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and will reportedly hit the screens on the 50th anniversary of Star Wars franchise. The production has already wrapped, putting fans one step closer to the standalone space adventure.

His other consecutive collaboration with Gosling arrives the following year. Marvel's Ghost Rider  is being developed by Levy to officially integrate him into the MCU. The project is currently in active development and is slated to release in July 2028.
