Shaquille O’Neal’s Dunkman is coming back with full and confirmed force, with a season 2. The basketball icon has found another way to keep the ball in the air, this time by giving professional dunkers a league of their own. What began as a television competition built around some of the world’s most gravity-defying athletes is now growing into a global sporting property, with O’Neal.

After turning spectacular dunks into a televised competition, O’Neal is now giving the concept more cities, countries and competitors with season 2. 

Dunkman will return for Season 2 in 2027, with the league expanding well beyond its first run. The new season will travel across more cities and countries, while introducing team competitions and a junior division for athletes aged 15 and under. The season's run will span the end of the NBA season through the start of the NFL and college football seasons, giving dunkers a new competitive window.

The route into the league will also become more open. Dunkers will first compete in open qualifying events before professional judges decide who advances. A global qualifier series will take the property into new markets throughout the year, while team competitions add another layer to a sport built around individual showmanship. (via Variety).

"Next year we’re going bigger. More cities, more countries, team battles and a junior division for the next generation. We’re building the future of the sport," the basketball star said in a statement. 

The idea for Dunkman first came to O'Neal when the 15-time NBA All-Star watched the Slam Dunk Contest lose its old pull, while social media filled with athletes capable of feats rarely seen on an NBA court. That gap became the opportunity from which O'Neal and his partners fashioned dunking as an actual sport.

But before the league could go global, Dunkman had to prove that the spectacle could hold an audience beyond basketball’s traditional stage.

The first Dunkman season arrived on TNT, truTV and HBO Max on December 4, 2025, as a six-episode reality competition featuring 40 top dunkers. Shaquille O’Neal served as commissioner and judge, alongside a rotating panel that included Vince Carter, Dwight Howard, Nate Robinson, Mac McClung and Chris Webber. Adam Lefkoe hosted with Jalen Rose as analyst, while the competition narrowed its field through increasingly demanding rounds.

The format moved from opening rounds into the semifinals and then head-to-head battles, with seven finalists ultimately reaching the championship. Jordan Kilganon emerged as the inaugural champion after a sudden-death dunk-off against Ty Jackson, sealing the $200,000 prize with a 540 dunk. 

Now, the next chapter has more room to fly. Dunkman comes from Authentic Brands Group and TNT Sports, with TNT Sports serving as co-creator and equity partner in the league. O’Neal also brings years of reality television experience, from Shaq Vs. to Shaq Life, alongside his entertainment career. After Season 1 established the concept, Season 2 will take the experiment global, with younger athletes, more cities, new markets, team battles and fresh audiences joining the flight.
