There is undeniably enormous anticipation surrounding the final episode of The Boys. From long-awaited bouts to mysteries, the series has a lot of ground to cover as it heads into its fifth and final season. Earlier, Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that the finale will run for no longer than 65 minutes.
And in this short span of time, the show must give a proper ending to its beloved characters or risk a backlash like Game of Thrones had in the past. Kripke had already opened up about the pressure and tension while making the final episode of The Boys. So, while the expectations continue to skyrocket, here are seven major questions about the characters and unresolved storylines that must be answered before the show takes its final bow.
Butcher vs. Homelander

A final showdown between Billy Butcher and Homelander has been brewing since Season 1 of The Boys. While Homelander possesses immense strength, near invulnerability, and his devastating laser vision, Butcher has relied on ruthless strategy, intellect, and deadly weapons that can take down Supes. Now, after using Temp V, Butcher has gained superhuman durability along with terrifying tentacle-like abilities, making their potential fight even more dangerous and unpredictable.
Whether the confrontation turns into a brutal fight or a tense exchange loaded with more dialogue than action, there is expectation for a proper clash between the two.
Vought
Vought International, the organisation where it all began, remains one of the most crucial aspects of The Boys and, unsurprisingly, it also appears in the promotional pictures for the final season. In one image, a collapsed Vought International building appears behind Billy Butcher, sparking major speculation among fans. So, the finale is expected to show what ultimately happens to the once-powerful organisation, Vought International.
Whether it collapses for good or somehow survives the storm, it helped create?
Ryan
One of the most important characters in The Boys is Homelander’s son, Ryan, especially because of his complicated connection to his father. After nearly being killed by his own father, Ryan was taken in by Billy Butcher, who helped him recover. However, Ryan has been missing ever since he walked away from The Boys’ base.
At this point, his relationship with Homelander appears more fractured than ever. And there is also growing speculation that Ryan could ultimately become the one to stop Homelander or even the one to finish him off himself. So the finale will be incomplete without Ryan’s long-awaited return and an explanation for his mysterious disappearance.
Soldier Boy
The Boys Season 5 Episode 7 was explosive, with Homelander finally obtaining the V1. However, it was followed by Soldier Boy rejecting Homelander and his vision for the future. The tension escalated to the point where Homelander choked Soldier Boy unconscious before placing him inside a cryogenic chamber.
While Soldier Boy is unlikely to be dead, his fate remains one of the biggest unanswered questions heading into the finale. Whether he returns to stand against Homelander or becomes an unwilling weapon, his involvement is crucial in the series.
Hughie and Annie
As The Boys gears up for its explosive final episode and the chaos surrounding Homelander, the show also needs to give closure to Hughie Campbell and Starlight. After surviving countless dangers, betrayals, and personal losses over the years, the two have remained each other’s emotional backbone and strongest source of support.
At the same time, their relationship has never been simple, and the finale will need to properly address where they ultimately stand. Apart from Hughie and Annie, nearly every major character deserves a meaningful conclusion. That includes The Deep.
Ashley
Ashley may have spent years being ignored, humiliated, and terrorized by Supes, but she is one of the show’s most fascinating characters. Last season, Ashley eventually injected herself with Compound V and survived the transformation, gaining telepathic abilities in the process. Interestingly, her powers seem to reflect the intense mental and emotional conflict she has carried throughout the series.
Despite witnessing Homelander commit horrifying acts, Ashley has constantly struggled between standing up to him and protecting herself. With the series nearing its end, the finale must give a proper ending to Ashley's arc.
Supes’ public opinion
A major theme throughout The Boys has been the danger of blind faith and the obsessive worship surrounding Supes, something that reached its peak when Homelander began viewing himself as a god-like being above humanity. As the series approaches its conclusion, one of the biggest questions is how showrunner Eric Kripke plans to bring that culture of worship to an end. After the final battle, will Supes continue to exist as part of society, or will the world finally turn against them for good?

And above all, there is the most important question, which is who ultimately brings down Homelander? Marie Moreau certainly has the powers and potential to challenge him, but Kripke has already suggested that the characters from Gen V will not simply step in and solve the problems of The Boys. They could still play a major role in helping Billy Butcher and the rest of the boys to weaken Homelander, but the show appears determined to keep the heart of the final conflict focus on the characters who started it all.
