Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller Rogen arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival with an unusually satisfying kind of double feature: two films, both carrying their fingerprints. One could assume this is the sort of professional overlap that could make work and marriage complicated, but for this couple in particular couple, the arrangement appears to have produced something considerably more enjoyable.

This time, there are two premieres to celebrate, and plenty of reasons for Rogen to look at his wife with something approaching disbelief.

Speaking to PEOPLE at TIFF's Road to the Golden Globes party on September 12, Seth Rogen opened up about the unusual moment he and Lauren Miller Rogen were sharing at the film festival. Miller Rogen directed him in Babies, while the couple also produced the animated feature Tangles, with Rogen lending his voice to the film. Rogen summed up the double premiere with a particularly affectionate observation.

“It’s so nice. It’s just amazing when the people you love, you get to work with them and you’re proud of them and you’re amazed at what they do," Rogen expressed.

"And the fact that it’s happening twice in the same festival is pretty crazy," the filmmaker added while speaking with PEOPLE. 

The festival moment also marks another stage in Miller Rogen’s evolution behind the camera. After directing Like Father in 2018, she returned to directing with Babies, casting her husband opposite Anna Kendrick, with whom her first meeting turned into a 3-hour heart-to-heart, in a story about a married couple whose temporary arrangement with a friend and her young daughter disrupts their domestic routine.

But the second film brings their professional partnership into considerably more personal territory.

Tangles, directed by Leah Nelson and based on Sarah Leavitt’s graphic memoir, follows a young woman as her mother develops Alzheimer’s disease. Its voice cast includes Abbi Jacobson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Beanie Feldstein, and more, with Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller Rogen producing alongside Evan Goldberg.

For Miller Rogen, the material carries a deeply personal connection. Her mother, Adele, was diagnosed with genetic early-onset Alzheimer’s at 55, whose journey the couple preserved through their caregiving experience in the 2025 documentary Taking Care. She has said she recognized her own family in Leavitt’s story when she first encountered the graphic novel a decade ago. Tangles previously premiered at Cannes earlier this year.

Tangles and Babies could hardly be more different in subject or form, but their arrival together makes the TIFF moment feel unusually cohesive. One is a comedy directed by Miller Rogen with her husband in front of the camera; the other turns a deeply familiar family experience into animation.

For Rogen, that may be the real novelty of the double feature: he is not simply watching two movies he helped make. He is watching his wife’s work take up space beside his own, twice over, on one of the industry’s biggest stages.
