In his interview with PEOPLE about his ABC series R.J. Decker, Scott Speedman spoke about working alongside Ryan Gosling on Goosebumps when they were both young. The actor further shared that before fame, he often saw Gosling on television and at various auditions. He also recalled Gosling being immensely gifted in comedy and even compared his talent to that of Jim Carrey.

“I mean, I have always watched him on Canadian television as sort of the Jim Carrey comic relief on shows and stuff like that,” he said.

“He became this other leading man kind of guy and he’s amazing at that. But he was a very, very gifted comedian as you see when he does Saturday Night Live.”

During his interview with PEOPLE, he further pointed out Gosling’s talent during his earlier stint on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club. Both the actors appeared in the 15th episode of Season 1, titled “Say Cheese or Die,” which premiered on February 9, 1996. After facing early struggles, both their careers eventually took off, with Speedman appearing in Felicity, while Gosling went on to star in The Notebook, Barbie, and now Project Hail Mary.
