The original Practical Magic cast a spell on audiences in 1998, enchanting viewers with its tale of the Owens sisters, their family curse, and the magic that binds them. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman became iconic as Sally and Gillian Owens, witches navigating love, loss, and sisterhood.

Nearly three decades later, Practical Magic 2 revives that world while introducing a younger generation through Joey King and Maisie Williams.

With the sequel arriving, Bullock has already hinted that the Owens story could continue beyond this chapter.

Sandra Bullock has openly teased the possibility of a third installment, contingent on the sequel's success. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she stated.

“We'll do a number three if this takes off, and we'll pass the torch to the girls”. This remark signals a clear intention to shift focus from the original sisters to the new generation played by King and Williams. Bullock also emphasized that the sequel was designed to welcome new viewers while honoring the original.

“If you haven't seen the first film, it doesn't matter. But if you did see the first film, there are nostalgic reminders that we're still in the same place with the same people, and we're bringing on two more magical baby witches” she told Vanity Fair. Maisie Williams appears ready to carry the legacy forward, having recreated Bullock's vintage red carpet looks during the press tour, earning the Oscar winner's approval.

Bullock and Kidman serve as producers on the sequel, positioning themselves to guide the franchise into its next chapter. If Practical Magic 2 proves successful, the torch will officially pass to King and Williams, allowing the Owens magic to continue through a fresh lens while maintaining the emotional core that made the original beloved.

For that handoff to happen, however, Practical Magic 2 first needs to prove that the Owens curse can work at the box office decades after the original.

The original Practical Magic had a complicated theatrical beginning. Released in 1998 on a reported $75 million budget, it finished with $46.7 million domestically and $94.4 million worldwide. Its legacy changed considerably after its theatrical run.

The film developed a devoted following, and Warner Bros. is now betting that nostalgia, the returning stars, and younger additions can turn that affection into a successful sequel. Practical Magic 2 reunites Bullock and Kidman as Sally and Gillian while bringing King, Williams, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest into the expanded story.

Susanne Bier directs the sequel, which continues the Owens family saga nearly 30 years after the original. The timing also gives Warner Bros. a built-in nostalgia audience while introducing the franchise to viewers encountering these witches for the first time.
