Sam Trammell Opens Up About Unexpected Role in 'Euphoria' Season 3

Published 04/07/2026, 11:29 PM EDT

Sam Merlotte is back, this time amidst a chaotic bunch of high school graduate young adults, and excitement cannot be hidden any longer. The True Blood icon Sam Trammell has created a media frenzy as he joins Euphoria Season 3 as its most surprising new member. However, Trammell recently revealed that landing a role in the hit HBO drama equally came as a complete surprise. He has now joined an already stacked ensemble for Season 3, which includes returning stars like Zendaya, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, alongside several high-profile newcomers.

Trammell's road to season 3 might just be the most serendipitous of them all.

Speaking with Variety, Sam Trammell explained that he unexpectedly received the opportunity to be a part of the show, which prevented him from getting ready for what was to come. He needed to reach a sudden peak physical condition because he had to perform in the visually stylized yet extremely demanding Euphoria universe. The actors in the HBO show require complete dedication for even the smallest parts, but Trammell did not see his role coming.

"I've been overseas, not expecting to be working in two days when I got home. And I was eating and drinking and enjoying myself, and then I got back and got some good news. I had to be in suddenly good shape," the actor told the outlet on how quickly things panned out for him before his role in Euphoria 3 was finalized.

Trammell's role details remain undisclosed, but his presence in the cast indicates that the show has continued to grow both its content and artistic ambitions. However, several theorists online have connected the dots by relating his role to Jules' sugar daddy, as per the casting call, which required the actor to be a cold plastic surgeon by day, sugar daddy by night. Although there has been no confirmation, rumor has it that he has filmed most of his scenes with Hunter Schafer, who plays Jules in the blockbuster show.

Euphoria has been successful in attracting both critical praise and global interest because it combines intense emotional performances with visually impressive components. And Season 3 will deliver its most unpredictable storyline through the introduction of new actors, including Trammell, alongside Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face), and Danielle Deadwyler (Till). The upcoming season, set to present a major time jump for the characters from their high school years into their upcoming adult lives, is set to premiere in April 2026.
