Anne Rice’s rich vampiric world took a new turn this year. Following the series adaptation of the book The Vampire Lestat, Interview With the Vampire, the show returned for its third season with a new focus and a retitling as The Vampire of Lestat. While the first two seasons followed the 200-year-old vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, the third zeroed in on Lestat’s life in 1980s France.

And one of the season’s most crucial moments is his transformation, which appeared glamorous in the show. However, as per Sam Reid, who plays Lestat de Lioncourt, that scene does not tell the whole story.

Sam Reid was upset after reading the script for episode 3 of The Vampire Lestat because of how Lestat's vampire transformation was initially presented. He felt the first approach made the crucial and traumatic moment seem too lighthearted. However, after finishing the episode, Reid said the final scenes gave the transformation the emotional weight it deserved.

"Then obviously, you get to the end, and it's a much better payoff," Reid told Entertainment Weekly. "I was just blown away, really," he said.

The episode portrays Lestat's transformation in the style of an '80s music video as he performs the song 'Your Biggest Fan.' Reid was so upset by the scene that he threw the script across the room, as Rolin Jones told Entertainment Weekly. However, Jones also pointed out that Reid had not yet finished the episode yet.

"I was p***ed about script three," Reid said, as per Entertainment Weekly. "I was like, 'Whoa, that's a really crazy Taylor Swift take on a very abusive transformation. Is that what this is?' Then I read it, and I was like, 'F*** you, man. Are you serious? How am I supposed to do this? How are we going to do this?'" he added.

And just Reid later admitted, the series shows the scene as scary and traumatic as it should be. The episode shows Lestat later reliving the traumatic experience, haunted by Magnus, until the memories cause him to crash his car. So, while Reid initially had worries about the creative decision, the episode seemingly turned out well.
