In 2023, Sam Neill revealed he had been diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive type of peripheral T-cell lymphoma that affects the immune system. He sought medical help after noticing swollen glands while promoting Jurassic World Dominion. The cancer came back after chemotherapy, and he started on a newer drug treatment that put the disease in remission. Neill later said the experience gave him a new appreciation for life, and he remained cancer-free until his death.

For the unversed, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that arises from T cells, a type of white blood cell that is essential for the immune system. It could affect the usual functioning of the immune system and result in conditions like enlarged lymph glands, fever, rashes on the skin, night sweats, fatigue, and unexpected weight loss. However, developments in targeted therapy drugs and modern medicines have allowed for better management of the disease.
