Ryan Gosling starrer Project Hail Mary has officially breached the $600M mark and is now heading for The Martian’s $630M. Just a week ago, the internet was raving about the fact that the movie had still maintained pretty good numbers, incurring just a 10-12% drop in its fifth week, which is quite difficult for any movie to achieve. It turns out the decision to extend its theatrical run by a week worked in the movie’s favor. 

Project Hail Mary has gone beyond expectations and has become a blockbuster thanks to positive word-of-mouth and repeated viewings. 

Ryland and Rocky’s bromance has catapulted Project Hail Mary past the $600M orbit, per DiscussingFilm. These figures follow Amazon's announcement almost a week ago that it was delaying the distribution of Project Hail Mary on Prime Video and extending its theatrical run due to the film's overwhelming box office success.

The studio clarified that maintaining it alone in cinemas for a longer period of time was warranted by the strong box office performance and ongoing audience demand. And to be clear, this decision was a resounding success as the movie did those numbers even while competing with the newly released Super Mario Bros Galaxy Movie.

However, the $600M benchmark was not the only milestone it achieved this week. The movie has now become the second movie of 2026 to reach the $300M milestone at the North American box office. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the first movie of the year to surpass this threshold.
