Throughout its history, the American Cinematheque Award has honored some of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers and actors for their contributions to the entertainment industry. Past recipients include Michael B. Jordan, Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron, and Spike Lee, making it one of the most coveted honors in the industry. Continuing that tradition, Ryan Gosling will soon receive the American Cinematheque Award 2026. 

With a career defined by acclaimed performances and bold creative choices, Gosling is set to join one of Hollywood’s most distinguished circles. 

Ryan Gosling was announced today as the 40th recipient of the American Cinematheque Award at a tribute. It will take place on Monday, November 2, 2026, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. 

"It is with tremendous pride that the American Cinematheque recognizes Ryan Gosling as the recipient of our 40th Annual American Cinematheque Award,” American Cinematheque Board Chair Rick Nicita announced the selection.  

After more than a decade of work, the organization announced Ryan Gosling will receive the award for his career and qualities that make him a standout figure in Hollywood. It showcased his celebrated performances in films such as Half Nelson, Drive, La La Land, Barbie, and Project Hail Mary, which had hit $11M+ in previews. It further highlighted his commitment to ambitious and meaningful filmmaking. 

The American Cinematheque also praised Gosling as an artist whose “versatility, emotional depth, and fearless approach to his craft embody the spirit of the honor. His recent work in Project Hail Mary cemented his ability to anchor major films, and the commercial and critical success of the film proved that. He was also praised for consistently choosing challenging projects, and the organization said it was proud to recognize his contributions to cinema.

Gosling’s selection places him in the company of recent honorees whose careers have similarly blended critical acclaim, commercial success, and creative ambition. 

Scarlett Johansson was one of the youngest stars to accept the American Cinematheque Award in 2021. She was honored for her work on indie favorites like Lost in Translation and blockbuster franchises such as Marvel. It was a testament to her range and her enduring influence on modern cinema.

On the other hand, Michael B. Jordan was honored with the American Cinematheque Award in 2025 for his accomplishments as an actor, producer and director. By now he had a respectable filmography that included Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther and Sinners. The ceremony underscored his increasing influence as one of Hollywood's top creative forces.

Now, Gosling will receive the 40th American Cinematheque Award, following on the heels of previous honorees including Scarlett Johansson and Michael B. Jordan. Gosling is being celebrated like the stars before him, not just for celebrated performances, but for the creative range and artistic ambition that have defined his career. His decision continues the tradition of the organization in acknowledging talent that has left an indelible mark on contemporary cinema.
