Rupert Grint will return as an adult Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at New York City’s Lyric Theatre from February 2 through May 30, 2027. The actor announced the news on Instagram, sharing the production’s playbill alongside a playful remix of his famous line from the original films. Grint also expressed his excitement about revisiting a character who shaped his career.

The casting carries an especially personal meaning for Grint because Cursed Child follows the Wizarding World’s original characters into adulthood. The play is set 19 years after the events of the books, with the next generation at its center. Grint has pointed to the full-circle feeling of portraying Ron as a father himself, mirroring an important stage of the character’s life.

His Broadway return follows Tom Felton’s celebrated stint as Draco Malfoy. Felton began performances on November 11, 2025, and extended his engagement through January 3, 2026. That schedule places Grint’s arrival several months after Felton leaves the production, meaning the two actors will not share the Broadway stage.

Kit Harington has joined Season 2 of HBO’s Harry Potter series as Gilderoy Lockhart, replacing Nicholas Hoult after Hoult departed because of scheduling conflicts. Harington has already portrayed Lockhart in Audible’s full-cast Harry Potter audiobooks, making his transition into the live-action role an intriguing Wizarding World return.

Lockhart arrives at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
