The Met Gala is one of the most anticipated events of the year across fashion, entertainment, music, art, and business. After all, the event brings notable names, including entrepreneurs and elite actors, under one roof. While the hype around this time is undeniable, several celebrities have chosen to keep their distance after making their debut or attending multiple times. Meanwhile, some are even believed to have been banned from the event.

Although the Met Gala prefers to keep its guest list a secret, here are some celebrities who are either reportedly banned or have chosen to avoid the event.

Rachel Zoe

Fashion designer Rachel Zoe was reportedly removed from the Met Gala guest list after her bold comments about Anna Wintour in a 2007 interview with The New York Times. She claimed that she is more popular. But there is no confirmation of the ban rumor.

“Anna Wintour is one of my heroes, but they say that I’m more influential,” Zoe’s 2007 comment read.

Moreover, the designer attended the Met Gala in 2010 and 2011.

Tim Gunn

Tim Gunn seemingly confirmed back in 2016 that he was banned from the Met Gala, calling it a “matter-of-fact” situation. He revealed the fallout began after he shared a story about Anna Wintour being carried down stairs by bodyguards. Following the comment, Gunn said tensions escalated, leading to an ongoing feud and his exclusion from the event.

Amy Schumer

There are several celebrities who have been honest about their opinion on the event. One such is Amy Schumer, who openly criticized the entire theme during her interview with Howard Stern in 2016. She is clearly not banned from the event, but she also has not made an appearance since 2022.

“I don’t like the farce We’re dressed up like a bunch of fucking a*******,” she told Stern.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Much like Schumer, Gwyneth Paltrow has also been honest about her opinion on the event. She described her experience at the Met Gala in 2013 as bad and criticized the theme and atmosphere. She felt the event was overcrowded.

“Then you get there and it’s so hot and it’s so crowded and everyone’s pushing you. I think we’re all a bit old to dress up punk,” she said.

Despite her previous comments, she later returned to the Met Gala in 2017 and 2019.

Lili Reinhart

Lili Reinhart attended the Met Gala in 2022 but later said she does not expect to be invited back after criticizing Kim Kardashian’s rapid weight loss for wearing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress. Later in an interview with W Magazine, she admitted the event was “fun,” but hinted her comments about a “certain person in a certain dress” may have affected her future invitations.

However, there are comments that confirm that she is banned from the event.

Nicki Minaj

Another name that made rumors is Nicki Minaj, who was reportedly “shut out” of the Met Gala for 2026 following a series of political comments. A source claimed that her invitations gradually stopped. She has been absent from the event, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
