For decades, literary history has celebrated the towering legacy of the legendary author who captured the rugged beauty of the sea, the intensity of war, and the complexities of the human spirit with sparse, emotionally resonant prose. Yet beneath the public myth of a hard-drinking, globe-trotting icon lay a deeply complex man grappling with the heavy toll of time, creativity, and isolation.

This shrouded truth is now getting the Hollywood treatment and is all set to be showcased on the big screen. Now, as independent cinema prepares to shine a light on his final moments, acclaimed actor Ron Perlman is stepping directly into the legendary beard and khakis to bring the literary titan to the screen in a new biographical feature.

At 76 years old, veteran screen icon Ron Perlman shows no signs of slowing down. Marking a year since the launch of his Asylm Studios banner alongside co-founder Willie Morris, the Hellboy star has half a dozen films in active production - and a packed creative calendar that bridges independent cinema and major television projects. Among Perlman's most anticipated upcoming ventures is a biographical feature centered on legendary author Ernest Hemingway.

Set to film next year, the project will take production directly to Cuba, exploring the literary giant's later years on the island, per Deadline. Perlman is slated to star as Hemingway and will co-direct the feature alongside acclaimed cinematographer Gabriel Beristain. The production has secured official cooperation from the Hemingway estate and the Cuban government, granting the crew rare access to historic local backdrops such as Finca Vigía.

Perlman aims to wrap production on the biographical drama before shifting focus to the small screen. According to what he told Deadline, the film focuses on the legend’s last couple of years and everything that led to his s******. He told the outlet that production on the project is about to start.

Television audiences can also look forward to Perlman’s return to familiar thematic territory. He is set to co-star in Legends, the anticipated Sons of Anarchy spin-off series led by Charlie Hunnam.

Unlike a traditional continuation or a standard biker-club revival, Legends is shaping up to be a uniquely subversive meta-thriller. Developed by and starring Charlie Hunnam, the FX limited series brings back much of the iconic Sons of Anarchy ensemble - including Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Kim Coates, Tommy Flanagan, and others - not to reprise their old roles, but to play heightened, fictionalized versions of themselves.

The plot kicks off when the cast gathers for a milestone fan convention over a decade after the original series wrapped. However, what is meant to be a nostalgic celebration quickly spirals into chaos when reality and fiction dangerously blur, forcing the actors to navigate a high-stakes, real-world threat.
