Robert Downey Jr. has traded the Iron Man suit for a Doctor Doom mask, but apparently, the Marvel showman never really left the building. The actor is leading the Avengers: Doomsday promotional blitz, dominating San Diego Comic-Con with a 7,000-person Hall H crowd, Victor von Doom masks, and an invitation to join his 'family of Doom.' With Downey Jr. clearly enjoying his return to Marvel’s multiverse, he is now having fun imagining what other wonderfully chaotic character combinations could emerge from it.
That includes a potential team-up between Ryan Gosling’s newly revealed Ghost Rider and Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir, a supernatural crossover Downey Jr. thinks could be rather spectacular.

Robert Downey Jr. is currently living his best Marvel life, and Entertainment Weekly caught him in full Doctor Doom mode while interviewing Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, and other Avengers: Doomsday stars. When Ryan Gosling’s newly announced Ghost Rider came up, Downey Jr. was asked whether the Spirit of Vengeance could ever cross paths with his fellow Marvel heroes.
“I want him and Spider Noir with Nick to come back in and be a motorcycle with sidecar,” Robert Downey Jr. declared, proposing a team-up between Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider and Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir that sounds less like a conventional superhero crossover and more like the multiverse taking a joyride. The Iron Man star even imagined the two characters arriving together, because apparently one motorcycle is not enough Marvel transportation.

The suggestion arrives as both Ghost Rider and Spider-Noir are enjoying major moments in the Marvel conversation, making Downey Jr.’s idea particularly deliciously timed. Ryan Gosling is officially stepping into the Spirit of Vengeance for a standalone Marvel film and is bringing a long-time fan casting to life, while Nicolas Cage is leading the gritty Spider-Noir series as Ben Reilly. As Entertainment Weekly discovered, Doctor Doom may already have a crossover pitch ready before either character has even finished revving their engines.
When the Oppenheimer actor has already made everyone debate whether mismatched costumes can work, perhaps his bizarre Ghost Rider and Spider-Noir team-up deserves a hearing.
Have Ghost Rider and Spider-Noir ever paired up in the comics?
No, Spider-Man Noir and Ghost Rider have never actually teamed up in Marvel Comics, despite the multiverse having enough dimensions to misplace several Avengers. Spider-Man Noir belongs to Earth-90214, while Ghost Rider’s various incarnations have primarily haunted Earth-616. Even Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon did not give the 1930s vigilante a supernatural motorcycle ride alongside the Spirit of Vengeance.

That does not make a future team-up impossible, because Marvel has built an entire cinematic empire out of characters who once occupied separate corners of the multiverse. Spider-Man Noir can cross dimensions, Ghost Rider can bring the flaming transportation, and the MCU has already made reality-hopping feel like standard Avengers business. So, if Robert Downey Jr. gets his way, his bizarre sidecar idea could eventually become more than a Doctor Doom-level flight of fancy.
