Few institutions can coax a famous person into mocking the very thing that made them famous, and Saturday Night Live has made a long career of it. The show has turned Kim Kardashian’s many professions into a punchline with her full cooperation. It has had Ariana Grande poke fun at the Wicked sequel, a franchise she is very much attached to. Every rule, however, has a stubborn exception. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson drew the line at Michael Che’s Black Adam script.

This leaves the matter of what, precisely, the sketch asked of him, and why those two words in the headline may have been the gentlest part.

Why did The Rock reject Michael Che's Black Adam script?

Michael Che's marriage to SNL has produced some of its most successful products. Despite this, not every idea from Michael Che's script has been executed on screen, and, as per his revelation on GOAT Talk, one such idea was the one he pitched to Dwayne Johnson.

"He asked God to remove his rib," Che said about his Adam script for Dwayne Johnson.

Despite his refusal to be a part of Michael Che's script during his Black Adam era, the SNL weekend host still counts Dwayne Johnson as his GOAT SNL guest on GOAT Talk. After all, Johnson is a part of the Five-Timers Club and has done some of the most hilarious monologues on the show.

Che's crowning of Dwayne Johnson is very on-brand with the actor's personality. Especially when he is around Kevin Hart.

Dwayne Johnson is up for anything

Dwayne Johnson has spent a career declining to stay in the box that his biceps seemed to have built for him. The wrestler who might have been content with a lifetime of scowling and eyebrow-raising instead wandered into family comedy, animation, and self-parody with the air of a man who simply wasn’t told about the rules. He has fought monsters in the Jumanji films, voiced a demigod with a gift for song in Moana, and squeezed into a tutu for Tooth Fairy, a choice that few action stars would survive with their dignity intact.

Saturday Night Live has long been the proving ground for that good humor. A regular host of the show, Johnson has repeatedly handed the writers permission to make him the punchline, whether the joke targeted his famously huge physique, his earnest stardom or his unshakable charm. For a man who has worn a tutu and happily played the punchline, it says something that the one line he drew was at Che’s Black Adam page.
