Prime Video's LGBTQ+ rom-com crown jewel has finally set the cameras rolling on the production of the long-awaited sequel to Red, White, and Royal Blue, which was announced on May 9, 2024. The stars Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez have returned to their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz for the Amazon MGM Studios sequel Red, White, and Royal Wedding.

The cast members have been spotted filming in London, with behind-the-scenes footage from their shooting locations made available online, which included scenes from their holiday-themed production set. The sequel, which began production on January 19, 2026, has already got the world waiting for a complete trilogy.

At the Emmys 2024, Zakhar Perez told Variety that he had high hopes for the possibility of a trilogy. For Zakhar Perez, only a three-feature franchise could bring justice to the book that leaves readers turning the pages in anticipation, and that he had wanted a sequel while signing on to star in Red, White & Royal Blue.

"Because it's a great book and it kind of leaves you hanging as you read it. I mean, I hope that there's, like, three of them. I mean, I think it could be a nice trilogy," the actor told Variety.

Alongside Galitzine and Perez, many original cast members are returning, including Uma Thurman, Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Thomas Flynn, Aneesh Sheth, and Clifton Collins Jr. The new additions to the cast, which include Lena Headey, Henry Ashton, Alex Høgh Andersen, and Chloe Fineman, will add new character relationships to thicken the plot.

The sequel's storyline needs no introduction, as Alex and Henry's dramatic relationship is inevitably going to get even more chaotic through marriage. However, curiosity is what keeps the cat alive and kicking in the bag.

What is the Red, White, and Royal Wedding plot about?

The title Red, White & Royal Wedding is speculated to be about Alex and Henry's wedding, although the actual plot details remain hidden. However, the footage indicates that Princess Beatrice's wedding serves as the wedding scene, which allows the main story to show character development instead of focusing on the wedding events.

Directed by Jamie Babbit, who replaces Matthew López from the first movie, the screenplay comes from Gemma Burgess, López, and original author Casey McQuiston, who provide the sequel with its quintessential heartfelt elements and queer representation. What everyone really wants to know is which date to mark their calendars for.

Reports expect a 2026 release because no official date exists yet, which includes holiday timing based on current filming scenes. The sequel's release method remains unknown because there has been no announcement about streaming or theatrical distribution.

Expect Alex and Henry to undergo public scrutiny as they handle their personal and political challenges throughout their life together. The official chapter begins with Red, White & Royal Wedding, but the real problems have only just begun.
