Rebecca Ferguson Reflects on the Fear That Kept Her From Naming a Co-Star for Bullying

Rebecca Ferguson is one of the rare voices in Hollywood who has never hesitated to speak her mind and stand up for herself. The actress did just that when she called out a co-star for rude behavior, revealing that the person yelled and screamed at her on set. She shared that taking a stand and asking the actor to leave while she performed her scenes opposite a tennis ball instead ultimately helped her find her voice.

Ferguson, however, never revealed the name or even the gender of the co-star, which sparked a debate about the person’s identity. And now, she has finally opened up about the reason for keeping that detail private.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Rebecca Ferguson finally addressed the controversy about the bullying incident.

“It was so scary. I didn’t know then how to go, ‘Hey, can I talk to you privately?’ Now, I would want to believe that I could have taken this person aside,” she said.

“A lot of people say that we’ve become too woke, but I think, no, it’s great. The pendulum needs to swing to the other side so that we can find a balance in between,” she further added. The controversy began when the actress, during an interview on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, recalled an incident in which a co-star yelled at her because they felt insecure about their own acting. She remembered leaving the set in tears.

“You call yourself an actor?,” she remembered the actor’s comment. Soon after the revelation, social media erupted to respond to her comments. While many supported her, including her former co-star Dwayne Johnson, others began speculating about the identity of the actor she was referring to.

But while Ferguson may not have revealed any names, she clarified that it was not her former co-star, Tom Cruise, with whom she has worked three times. She has even learned a few things from Cruise, as revealed during the conversation.

In the same interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Rebecca Ferguson also spoke about her co-star, Tom Cruise, and her experience working with him.

"He comes with this… purpose. He’s a boy who just loves playing, and offers up a safe and professional set. That’s a really good balance [of qualities] to make you want to try new things,” Ferguson said of Cruise.

Ferguson further shared that she had also begun performing many of her own stunts, much like Cruise does, after joining the Mission: Impossible franchise. So, it is clear that neither Cruise nor her former co-star, Hugh Jackman, is the actor she was referring to in the bullying incident. While the name remains hidden, the real inspiration is the way Ferguson, who is set to star in the upcoming Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Manspoke openly about her experience.
