While many of Hayden Panettiere’s co-stars and friends had taken to social media to pay tribute to the late actress, Courteney Cox was yet to open up about her co-star. Finally, during an appearance at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, she joined Entertainment Weekly to talk about her second directorial feature, Evil Genius. During the conversation, she recalled her time with Panettiere while working on the Scream movies.

“She’s a really wonderful actor. The last time I worked with her we had a great time. She was really fun and happy and smart, and it’s really sad. It’s obviously horrible,” Cox said.

Before Cox's interview with Entertainment Weekly, Panettiere’s Heroes co-stars also got together for a reunion to remember the actress and honor her legacy in the industry. “I’m heartbroken. I couldn’t begin to put my thoughts into words until now, and they will be inadequate,” Coleman wrote.
