'Project Hail Mary' OTT Release: Your Guide to Stream Ryan Gosling’s 96% Rated Hit Sci-fi

Published 03/10/2026, 1:26 PM EDT

Ryan Gosling’s most anticipated movie of the year, Project Hail Mary, is just around the corner and is all set to entertain the audience on March 20, 2026. The film is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name, which became an immediate bestseller and audiobook, winning the Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year in 2022. But the most interesting part about this information is that it is the same writer who wrote The Martian, which was turned into the critically acclaimed Ridley Scott-directed movie starring Matt Damon in 2015.

Now, that the hype of the movie has ballooned up to epic proportions, people have started wondering where they could watch this epic sci-fi.

Project Hail Mary, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios in the US and Sony Pictures International Releasing globally, is supposed to be available on Amazon Prime Video, considering the involvement of the studio in the project. This is not yet confirmed through any official reports, but this is likely to happen. The date and place of its OTT debut should be officially announced after its theatrical run.

Since the movie was made especially for IMAX, the audience's experience of wonderment through scientific discovery, the immensity of space, and the softness of human connection will all be amplified through the vast canvas. Viewers will be fully immersed in both the desperate race against time to preserve Earth and the solitude of deep space, thanks to the IMAX format.

Watching Ryan Gosling save the world on an IMAX screen is what makes the prospect of this movie even more exciting. Gosling’s return to sci-fi after almost a decade makes one think whether this one is going to be different from the highly appreciated Blade Runner 2049 (2017). For what it is worth, the trailer suggests that it is a whole new adventure with some comedic elements imbued here and there.

Nonetheless, the story written by Andy Weir and the cast and crew have been the equal parts responsible for the hype.

The exhilarating plot and a capable cast and crew of Project Hail Mary

Kind of along similar lines to Andy Weir's well-known and revolutionary book The Martian, Project Hail Mary is a space survival drama. However, unlike The Martian, there is more to the story than just one man returning to Earth alive. Rather, the survival narrative of Project Hail Mary swiftly gives way to a more intriguing concept: an ordinary high-school science teacher being the last hope for humanity.

Weir's distinctive blend of reality and humor is present throughout the book, and it appears that filmmakers Miller and Lord have utilized a lot of the same spirit. It looks like Project Hail Mary will feel more conversational, as Weir does so well with his stories, as opposed to Ridley Scott, who used a more serious tone when translating The Martian for the big screen.
