The Prince of Wales, who was 15 years old when his mother died in 1997, recently held discussions at Kensington Palace with BBC director-general Matt Brittin regarding potential broadcast ideas, but ultimately decided against taking part.

Unlike their joint appearance in the 2017 ITV documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, Prince William has chosen to step back from on-screen involvement for this upcoming milestone. That documentary saw the brothers come together and talk about their mother’s fond memories and her legacy.

According to The Sunday Times, sources close to the heir to the throne indicate that Prince William remains deeply emotional about his mother's death and wishes to avoid any media projects that might pit him against his estranged brother, Prince Harry, amid rumors that the Duke of Sussex may pursue a project of his own.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry is reportedly exploring ways to mark his mother’s milestone 30th anniversary.

Prince Harry, who returned to his homeland with his family on August 26, has reached out to several of his mother's friends and relatives regarding potential participation in a commemorative project. Among those approached is Earl Spencer, who recently noted in his memoir that he penned the book specifically to avoid serving as a traditional "talking head" in external television productions about his late sister.

While Prince Harry's prospective project remains unconfirmed as he weighs various avenues to honor her legacy, industry sources suggest the documentary could potentially be developed through Archewell Productions, his and Meghan Markle's banner operating under a first-look deal with Netflix.
