Prince Harry Is Being Sued by a Charity He Helped Build: Here’s Why

While Prince Harry rarely stays away from the spotlight, whether for his royal presence or the controversies that often follow, the Duke now finds himself in the middle of yet another unfolding chapter. Even as he and Meghan Markle prepare to arrive in Australia in mid-April 2026 for a four-day visit centred on philanthropic and business engagements, a different headline has taken over. This time, the royal is facing a lawsuit from none other than Sentebale, the very organisation he once helped build.

What went wrong for the Prince that led to being sued by a charity he helped build? Here’s everything you need to know.

Prince Harry co-founded Sentebale in 2006 alongside Prince Seeiso and remained closely involved in its mission over the years, even contributing proceeds from his memoir to support its work. However, the royal now finds himself on the opposite side of that legacy, as Prince Harry is being sued for libel by the very charity he helped build, alongside former trustee Mark Dyer. In its statement, Sentebale claims it has sought legal intervention following a coordinated adverse media campaign since March 2025 that caused reputational harm and operational disruption, alleging both Prince Harry and Dyer were central to the campaign, which triggered widespread online backlash against the organisation.

"The proceedings have been brought against Prince Harry and Mark Dyer, identified through evidence as the architects of that adverse media campaign, which has had significant viral impact and triggered an onslaught of cyber-bullying directed at the charity and its leadership." Said the Board of Trustees and the Executive Director of Sentebale in a statement.

Responding to the claims, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Dyer has strongly denied the allegations as reported by BBC, stating that as Sentebale’s co-founder and a founding trustee, they categorically reject what they describe as offensive and damaging claims. The statement further questions the use of charitable funds for legal action, arguing that it is extraordinary for the organisation to pursue those who built and supported it for nearly two decades instead of directing those resources toward the communities it was created to serve.

While the claims continue to swirl, Prince Harry’s exit from Sentebale had already followed a wave of accusations, including bullying, r*****, and misogyny, raised by Sophie Chandauka. Yet as the controversy unfolds, his upcoming April trip to Australia with wife Meghan Markle may take on an entirely different tone.

Duke and Duchess of Sussex to arrive in Australia for four-day visit

Amid the ongoing legal tensions, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to arrive in Australia for a four-day private visit beginning April 14, 2026, marking their first trip to the country since 2018. The visit includes stops in Melbourne and Sydney, where both are scheduled to attend a series of professional and public-facing engagements. Despite not being an official royal tour, the trip has already drawn significant attention due to its timing and surrounding controversy.

During the visit, Prince Harry is expected to deliver a keynote address at the InterEdge Psychosocial Safety Summit in Melbourne from April 15 to 16, while Meghan Markle will attend a Her Best Life event in Sydney from April 17 to 19. However, the trip has not been without criticism, particularly over concerns surrounding security arrangements and public funding, with reports of petitions gaining traction. As the visit unfolds, both their appearances and the public response are likely to remain under close watch.

Meanwhile, as the sudden legal drama once again surrounds Prince Harry, it remains uncertain whether the planned Australia itinerary will unfold as expected.
