Prince Harry relinquishes his leadership role at a longtime charity ahead of his UK return due to controversy. The Sussexes are currently undergoing some tectonic shifts in their life. The royal couple is contemplating a move back to Prince Harry’s native home - the UK- which could be a hassle for wife Meghan Markle, as she has already spent years building a life in Montecito. And amid such huge changes in their personal life, they have been hit hard professionally too.  

Now, Prince Harry has departed yet another post since the Sentebale resignation in 2025.

It seems like Prince Harry has ended up in another pickle. A year after African Parks admitted that its rangers had violated human rights, Prince Harry moved away from the organization's board.

A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said: “The Duke is proud of his 10 years with African Parks and fully supports the ongoing strengthening of its Board. His commitment to conservation in Africa continues, and he remains a supporter of African Parks’ mission.”

In 2016, Prince Harry joined forces with African Parks for the first time, and the following year, he was elected president of the nonprofit organization that oversees national parks throughout the continent. He was given a more senior position on the board of directors in 2023. According to the Charity Governance Code, trustees may be reappointed for additional terms, up to a maximum of nine years, and are typically expected to serve for a maximum of three years.

African Parks conducted an impartial inquiry into claims that its rangers mistreated, r****, and tortured native people last year. The organization confirmed in a May 2025 statement that the inquiry had been completed and that human rights violations had occurred in certain instances.

This departure might be hard for the Duke of Sussex due to his closeness to the African continent.

Prince Harry has referred to Africa as his "second home" and holds a special place in his heart. Since his early years, he has made numerous public and private trips to the continent. In order to assist young people in Southern Africa, he and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho co-founded Sentebale in 2006. But amid what has been described as a financial crisis and internal strife, Prince Harry left Sentebale last year.    

The announcement of Prince Harry's resignation from African Parks coincides with his long-term return to the United Kingdom with Meghan Markle and their two children, Princess Lilibet, 5, and Prince Archie, 7. The children will begin school in Britain in the upcoming weeks, and they are anticipated to arrive this month.
