Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Tour Kickoff Has a Special Princess Diana Connection

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had begun making headlines for their Australia trip even before they landed on the continent. While many claimed that the visit seemed like a pseudo-royal tour, others were excited to see the couple return to Australia seven years after their first visit in 2018. They remained in the spotlight as they arrived at one of their first stops in Melbourne.
However, this time for a good reason, which is even linked to Princess Diana.

Prince Harry has previously stated to PEOPLE that he wishes to continue his mother’s humanitarian legacy. And he continues to honor her dreams, as he, along with his wife, Meghan Markle, visited the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne on April 14, 2026, as their Australia trip kick-started. This is the same hospital that King Charles and Princess Diana also visited in October 1985, during the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the state of Victoria. And before King Charles and Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth visited the hospital.
Much like his parents, Prince Harry and Markle were also seen engaging with patients and their families, which was a huge morale boost for them, as the Board Chair of The Royal Children’s Hospital, Professor Christine Kilpatrick, explained.
“You can’t measure the morale boost, but it is palpable," she said. "Many of these patients have been here for quite some time and are often very frequent visitors to the hospital; a joy like this is wonderful for them.”
While on one hand, the Sussexes have carried the legacy forward on their Australia trip, it has also been at the center of stirring controversy, with the latest issue being the expensive tickets for events they are involved in.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Australia trip finds itself at the center of controversy
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing criticism over their Australia trip because of the high ticket prices for events they are attending. Prince Harry is set to speak at the InterEdge Summit in Melbourne, where tickets cost £525, platinum tickets are £1,250, and even virtual access costs £260. Markle will appear at a “girls’ weekend” retreat in Sydney.
And the tickets for the event are priced at £1,400, and VIP tickets go up to £1,675. Because of these prices, some people have accused the couple of trying to profit from the visit. As reported by The New York Times, Monday’s Sydney Morning Herald has one such comment.
“Australia was good to Harry and Meghan. Now they want to use us as an ATM,” the comment read.

Their team, however, says the trip focuses on causes like mental health and community support. After the hospital visit, the couple is also expected to attend the Invictus Games and make several philanthropic stops. More photos of the couple from their trip are expected in the coming days as they juggle criticism and tradition forward.
